Grace on Brevard's History

Grace on Brevard is an important piece of Charlotte's cultural and architectural history.

Grace was formerly the A.M.E. Grace Zion Church. It was established in 1902 and at the time was located in the most prestigious section of Charlotte's 2nd Ward, affectionately known as "Brooklyn." For almost a century, the church served as a focal point for religious and social activities for both young and old.

Among the founding members of the church were several prominent members of the African American community, including W.C. Smith, editor of the Charlotte Messenger, Dr. John Taylor Williams, a highly respected educator and physician and Thaddeus Lincoln Tate, a devoted civil servant and businessman.

The building continues to serve as a beautiful example of late nineteenth century Gothic Revival architecture.

Renovations on Grace finished in the Summer of 2008. Since then, Grace on Brevard has hosted a variety of events including Wedding Ceremony & Receptions, Business Meetings, Casino Nights, Networking Events, Birthday Parties and Fitness Classes. With its open floor plan, original light fixtures and stained glass windows Grace is the perfect location to host your next event.
